Castles Interpretation Center

For the lower reaches of the river has been designed Gaią a tourist route that runs through the 11 municipalities that make up what is known as the Baix Gaią sub-county, which includes eight castles: the El Catllar, that of the Nou, Montoliu that of Vespella, that of Montornčs, Altafulla, that of Fernando and Tamarit.

The Interpretation Centre of the Castles of Baix Gaią born in order to raise awareness of these strengths to the visiting public through interpretation of their values ??and issues most relevant. The goal is to become, in this way, the reference point and the route, providing the visitor a first contact with this and the area and encouraged to visit.

With this starting point, the project presented below is conceived as an interpretation center equipment created and designed so that, through a series of museum resources and interpretive, visitors gain a number of skills that will enable understand and appreciate the Gaią Baix territory and its castles.

But it is our intention to present the castles of Baix Gaią as traditionally done with other fortifications, like a fossilized elements in time, but to understand them as fortified enclaves, which have been subject to the passage of time and different historical circumstances and local situations that have occurred. From the great baronial castles of the Middle Ages, articulation of the territory and society to their use for as diverse as housing or warehouse or, in some cases, abandonment, one can guess the influence of society and the peculiarities of territory where they are.
